Alaska
KAKM - Channel 7 10/20 10:00 pm Alaska time
Tentative plan:
Public screening of the film, likely at UAA or our public library's Municipality of Anchorage Assembly Chambers.  We intend to invite a panel of speakers from the court system, politicians, a UAA professor, a survivor, maybe an attorney to give opening remarks on the issues and to announce or AK Battered Mother’s Testimony which is underway. We also hope to send written/formal invitations to judges, evaluators, etc.  We’ll then show the film.  We want to have discussion and testimonials afterwards, with teleconferencing capabilities set up so callers can participate from other sites in the state.  We certainly hope to have media coverage.  We have not yet chosen our date, but since we got the PBS affiliate's go-ahead today, we can now pick any date we want and start planning.  The local PBS station has said they will help us advertise and promote our event because we will then in turn promote viewing of their screening date on 10/20.
Good luck to us all!

This powerful documentary chronicles the impact of domestic violence on children. From adult
children of abuse to families re-victimized by the court systems to children experiencing the
trauma today, the special offers moving and unforgettable profiles of those struggling to put
their lives back together. The program also documents the disturbing frequency with which
abusers are winning custody of their children in family court cases, and explores why this
miscarriage of justice continues to occur. (P)

"It is amazing what South Carolina has planned for Oct. DV awareness month:

SCETV/SOUTH CAROLINA ETV

Remember My Name

ETV kicks off Domestic Violence Awareness Week in partnership with the
South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
(SCCADVASA) on October 23 - 29, 2005.

Sunday, October 23 at 3 pm
*Connections – Explores the issue of domestic violence particularly in
the minority communities.

Sunday, October 23 at 7 pm
*Open Lines – Dr. Glen Walter will talk with teens about the effects
of domestic violence on teenagers. Live from Rock Hill ETV.

Monday, October 24 at 7 pm
*Sylvia's Story – Sylvia endured years of domestic abuse before
deciding to end her marriage.  Fearful of her husband's reprisals, she
sought help from local law enforcement.  She was told to "go home and
lock your bedroom door."  Less than three hours later, she awakened to
the sound of gunshots.  Her estranged husband kicked in the door and
shot her three times.  Miraculously, she survived. This is Sylvia's
Story.

Tuesday, October 25 at 7 pm
*Lorie's Story – After suffering years of mental abuse and violent
beatings by her husband, Lorie felt her life was in danger. She shot
and killed her husband and was sentenced to 18 years in prison for
manslaughter. After serving seven years, Lorie was released. She now
is an abuse counselor, helping other women. This is Lorie's story.

Wednesday, October 26 at 7 pm
*Davetta, Rhonda and Marva- Not all abuse victims are able to tell
their stories. Sometimes, it's just too late. These three women were
killed by their partners. Their stories are told by the loved ones who
were left behind. Remember their names.

Wednesday, October 26 at 7:30 pm
*Breaking the Cycle –This program examines why men abuse woman and
explores the services that are available to help end the cycle of
violence. A former batterer speaks about his experience.

Thursday, October 27 at 7 pm
*ETV Forum –Pre-taped at the ETV studios in Columbia, Beryl Dakers
talks with victims, advocates, law enforcement, and prosecutors about
why South Carolina is one of the states leading the nation in domestic
homicide and abuse. Singer/Songwriter Danielle Howle will perform her
song, "Remember My Name."

Friday, October 28 at 7 pm
Breaking the Silence: Children's Stories -This program chronicles the
impact of domestic violence on children and the recurring failings of
family courts across the country to protect them from their abusers.
In stark and often poignant interviews, children and battered mothers
tell their stories of abuse at home and continued trauma within the
courts.
During a domestic violence police intervention, 45-60% of the time
children are present; 25% of the time children are present when their
mother is killed.

Saturday, October 29 from 6 pm to 8 pm  –rebroadcasts of programs
6 pm – *Sylvia's Story
6:30 pm – *Lorie's Story
7:00 pm – *Davetta, Rhonda and Marva
Nearly one-third of American women (31 percent) report being
physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point
in their lives.

ORIGINAL MUSIC
Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Danielle Howle wrote two
original songs for the project. Howle's songs "Ignition" and "Remember
My Name" were written specifically for this collaboration and were
recorded at ETV's Murray Studio. In order to make the lyrics as strong
and realistic as possible, she watched a rough cut of one of ETV's
documentaries, but also took it upon herself to interview several
women about their stories.
